Codi Dalen 

 

RAD Ballet and Acro 


Codi Dalen is a Registered Teacher (RTS) with the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD), and Acrobatic Arts (AAC)

Codi’s method of teaching dance within her classes provides the framework, the progression, and the understanding that helps dancers gain control of their bodies while giving them the skills to express themselves creatively.

Her experiences as the Founder and Director of Soul Funktion Dance Studio in Whistler, BC, and also, in her search to help her students connect to that confident and innocently pure centre of expression within, she was guided to the Bartenieff/Laban principles. While delving into study Codi experienced an in road into realizing her true nature and freedom of expression in movement. These principles offered a guide through the physical deeply into the connections with the mind and spirit. She’s had the opportunity to study this material with Mariah-Jane Thies, Vancouver, BC; Bill Evans, Brockport State University, NY; and Peggy Hackney and Janice Meadon, University of California, Berkeley, CA. 

During the last two decades of teaching dance, with an extensive background in Ballet, as well as Tap and other commercial disciplines, Codi has come to believe the following “FUNdamentals;”

- An essential way we learn is through the body,

- Emotional involvement is required to learn,

- Engaging a student in an exploratory learning process is an invaluable skill for a teacher. Thus motivating one's emotions, and therefore a consequent desire to learn,

- Everyone has a right to feel comfortable in their body and be able to express feelings through movement in a safe environment, 

- And lastly, children come from a place of knowing spirit and come from a place of joy. 

Codi’s goal is to foster each individual desire to keep these qualities open and strong in their dance and in their lives. Her movement classes are thriving as she weaves her knowledge of the Bartenieff/Laban principles into her children’s programs.

Andrea Gunnlaugson Furlan

trained professionally with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School and graduated Winnipeg’s School of Contemporary Dancers before moving to Vancouver in 1993. Over the course of 20 years of a professional performing career she had the honour of working with some of the most prominent Local, National and International choreographers and dance companies. Andrea has garnered much respect, both locally and abroad as a performing artist, teacher, adjudicator, rehearsal director and arts advocate.

Andrea officially retired from the performing world of Dance in 2009 and returned to school to study and graduate with Highest honours in Massage from Vancouver School of Bodywork and Massage; with much assistance from the Dancer Transition Resource Centre through a full training subsidy grant. She now is focused on her home business and practice ‘Doulandie Massage Specialist’; offering varied Massage services, Childbirth Education, Dancing for Birth TM Classes, as well as maintaining her passion for teaching dance and stretch, adjudicating dance and offering specialized career and anatomy classes for aspiring dancers. 

Andrea currently resides in Oliver, BC in the South Okanagan with her family.  She is an active volunteer on many arts committees, and has ventured into the theatre world as a Producer, Actor, Stage Manager, Technician and fundraiser. 

Founding Pl@ss has been a dream of Andrea's for a long time. A space for all to come to be included, accepted, educated, celebrated! She is excited to work among some of the most Exceptional teachers and mentors at Pl@ss, being a part of a creative family! a

Little Tree Music Together

Maiya Robbie, Teacher and Centre Director of Little Tree Music Together, has been teaching music to children and adults for over 15 years as a private instructor in Guitar, Voice, and Songwriting/Creative Expression. In the winter of 2012, after researching early childhood music development, Maiya found the early childhood music and movement program, Music Together (http://musictogether.com/).  She swiftly became fascinated by all the program has to offer to little ones, parents and families, as well as communities.  As a firm believer in non-performance based teaching for under 5's , as well as the importance of positive, dynamic role modeling from parents, teachers and caregivers in musical development, Music Together was a perfect fit for her teaching goals.  And so... Little Tree Music Together was born!  Serving communities around the Okanagan Valley, Maiya's highest hope is that music making, a vital ingredient in early childhood development and family growth, will be more easily accessed by all.  Along with scheduled weekly classes in various towns and cities, Maiya is working to offer outreach programing in tandem with local not-for-profits dedicated to community development.  As of Fall 2018, Maiya will also offering her private lessons at the Penticton Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts at the Leir House in Penticton.

Musically: After receiving a Diploma of Music from Selkirk College,  Maiya spent time writing and perforoming her original music throughout BC and Western Canada.  In 2006 she joined and helped create the 'Talk Rock' band Shane Koyczan and the Short Story Long.  Ten years later the band is going strong, performing to audiences around North America at venues such The Vogue in Vancouver and festivals such as the Vancouver Folk Fest and Hillside Festival in Guelph, Ontario, and Telluride in Colorado. Maiya is often touring in summer, with bands as well as on her own. This all helps her keep her feet warmed up for dancing with kids and families throughout the school year!

Welcome to Pl@ss. I am Rosemary and I eagerly anticipate being part of your movement experience. I teach Hatha based yoga combining physical postures, breathing exercises and some meditation as a way to promote and help maintain physical health as well as mental and emotional wellbeing. 

I turned to yoga to soothe my body from the rigours of volleyball and a long career in healthcare. Beyond increased flexibility and strength, the deep relaxation, stress relief and enhanced mental focus continues to draw me to the mat. 

You don’t have to arrive Strong, Focused and Flexible. Yoga is all about what feels right for your body and mind - at this moment in time.
